Counselling

Counselling is for any individual who wishes to improve areas of their life. It is a confidential, supportive and professional service for those seeking assistance with personal, work or life issues. Counselling can allow for greater self-awareness, that is, one comes to a greater understanding of how one’s thoughts, emotions and behaviours interact and influence our management of problems and relationships. This information often results greater freedom to fully participate one’s life. For example, counselling can help people overcome barriers and/or make positive changes around specific issues or situations (such as improving our relationship with our parent(s)). Counselling is usually of shorter duration than psychological therapy.

Family Therapy

Is designed to assist family’s functioning by examining the barriers to communicating and behaving effectively in all key members of a family unit, including, siblings, parents, step-parents and grandparents. The goal is to develop skills and patterns of relating which help families more effectively manage their problems and conflicts now and in the future.

Group Therapy

Weekly sessions of 60-80 minutes (depending on enrolment numbers) will run for minimum of 12 weeks. Groups on specific topics will be repeated during year depending on demand. A minimum of   people is required for some group programs to run and 6 people need to be enrolled to attract a Medicare rebate.

Therapy Groups will be closed; that is no new people will be able to join the group once it has commenced. Patients will be required to enrol in the group program by completing an application form and they must be in individual therapy. Individual therapy can be provided by another service such as Community Mental Health, Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service, Lifeline, Centerlink psychologist or another private psychologist. Applicants are expected to be able to attend most of the sessions.

Inclusion in the group program is influenced by a number of factors, including; the specific characteristics of the applicants. The aim of the selection process is to minimise dropouts and make the groups as productive as possible. On selection to a group, you will be provided with a set of behaviour standards for participating in group therapy including the requirement to provide 2-sessions notice before dropping out of group.
