Relationships
Insight has a range of therapies for couples depending upon the presence and/or level of distress they are experiencing. This service may attract a rebate from your private health insurance.
The typical pattern of relationship therapy involves:
- Initial interview with therapist usual involves approximately 20-30 min together with therapist, 15- 20 min each individually with therapist and 10 + min together again.
- Formal assessments of communication patterns and perceptions of the strengths and weakness through RELATE an on-line assessment tool. This helps couples set goals for areas of their relationship to improve upon
- The outcomes of the above are discussed with the therapist at the next session and help determine whether you will be offered
- Brief therapy – one to two sessions to address specific problems.
- Couple Care – A structure framework proven to be effective in improving multiple areas in distressed relationships.
- Medium- Long term Therapist-Guided couples therapy of between - 10 to 18 sessions.
We are able to see individuals with relationship problems even if partners are reluctant to come to therapy as most of the therapy is based on self-change.
In the absence of major individual problems in your partner (e.g. substance abuse, gambling and violence problems), when considering whether your relationship would benefit from therapy, please first consider the ways you may be able to change rather than just your partner to improve the relationship.
Are there things you can do to;
- Make your interactions more pleasant?
- Have greater shared interests?
- Improve you expression of intimacy - by greater expression of caring and love?
- Address difficulties in your sex life?
- Improve the way you solve conflicts?
- Be more supportive by acknowledging and assisting your partner in day-to-day activities (e.g. around the house and parenting)
To help you review the above questions below are some useful sites and recommended books you may find of assistance. Please contact us for an appointment if you feel some one-on-one therapy would be useful.
