Appointments

If you would like an appointment with us you may either:

  1. Simply phone or email the office directly and come as a private client(s). You do not
need a referral from anyone to come and see us. Please note – you may still be eligible
for a private health insurance rebate without a referral.
  2. Visit your general practitioner, private psychiatrist or pediatrician, let them know how you
are feeling and enquire about being referred under the Medicare Benefits Scheme
(Better Access to Allied Psychological Services - ATAPS ). To come under this scheme
you need to be suffering from psychological distress and have a Mental Health Care Plan
developed by your general practitioner or have a referral letter from your specialists with
their Medicare provider number listed. Please feel free to suggest to your doctor to see
the General practitioner section on this website for more information or go to the site
www.  if they are unfamiliar with the scheme.
  3. Please Note: A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) requires a great deal of your general practitioner time (usually at least 20 minutes) and you may need to schedule another longer appointment for this to be complete if they agree to refer you to Insight. The MHCP involves your general practitioner undertaking an assessment, identify needs, setting and agreeing to managements goals, identifying any other actions you may need to take and selecting treatment options for your ongoing management and finally documenting all of this in a plan.

  4. To come through your employer’s Employee Assistance Service (EAS) or Employee Assistance Program (EAP), you will need to have an invoice number prior to your first session. Please contact your Human Resource or Occupational Safety Officer in accordance with you workplace’s policy.
  5. If you intend to have therapy as part of workers compensation (or WorkCover), you will need to be referred by your general practitioner, an insurance company, your employer or a rehabilitation provider.
  6. If you have been referred by agency such as Job Network or Personal Support Service or a Rehabilitation Service. You will have to pay the entire fee and be reimbursed for any out-of-pocket expensive by this agency. Overtime, specific service agreements may be entered into which will enable Insight to directly bill them. Please enquire with the referral agency prior to making an appointment about how they will reimburse you.
  7. Please note: We are currently applying to have a Job Capacity Assessment Account with Centerlink  which will permit those patients referred by Job Capacity Assessors to access a free service. You will be contacted by Insight if you are eligible for therapy under this scheme.

  8. If you are veteran, you will need to be referred by a general practitioner, medical specialist, treating doctor in a hospital, local medical officer, another DVA contracted psychologist with a current referral. Your eligibility for services will be confirmed prior to the first appointment to ensure you have no out-of-pocket costs.
